Barry Was In Rare Form!
Barry really embellished it with the way he was playing the organ - big, sweeping arm motions - very powerful arm motions - honestly, like Phantom of the Opera. Barry took the audience by surprise, opened with Bach's Toccata and Fogue in D at the far right of the stage on a beautiful organ. Travelled from Boston to NYC to attend the rescheduled Seconds Out - Tribute to Genesis performance at RCMH. A true master and lover of his craft, he was home and lovin' it! When he hung on the stage absorbing our praises to him, he was hip thrusting stating he still has it! Wouldn't have missed it for anything!!! He told the audience that he was doing just fine. He blames the whole thing on “30 years of singing and jumping around to Copacabana.” After reminiscing over his Grand Dad, Barry wiped a tear from his cheek, showing his human side. Barry played a video of the scene where his Grand Dad would take him over the Brooklyn Bridge to record and make him sing. He was humble and grateful to sing for us and even asked RCMH to turn on the house lights as he sung his last song "One Voice" a cappella. Barry remarked how he'd always wanted to open a performance using the biggest organ in NYC, which he had! "That it was a nasty hip surgery, a lot of people were saying it was hip replacement surgery, but we wished it were, this was way crazier than that. It was four really terrible months but now he was back and really happy that the people of New York waited for him, because he would have done anything to play those shows.” It's too bad RCMH didn't honor his request, as it would have been wonderful for him to see us all there for him!
